Getting a new iPhone is great and seems like a dream at first, but when you dive in and start exploring the options, you realize that there might be no option to transfer data or contacts into your new iPhone. If you search the web for this reason, you might find that you are not alone in facing this problem, and this blog might be what you were looking for. Back in 2007, when iPhone was introduced, iPhone was one of a kind device as it had a multi-touch feature and a camera. Critics often said that iPhone was a bit expensive and the series might not go far. As of the year 2022, iPhone has seen much more advances than ever before. Apple has a firm standing in the global market and is a market leader in the US market. We can conclude that the device you are using is among the best devices globally.

The contact list is essential on your device because you might save every bit of detail related to a contact on your phone here. These contacts are not just for record but also used by other Apps. Transferring contacts from your old phone to your new one is vital for further use of your device.

Multiple ways can be used to move contacts to a new iPhone; however, we found out that the best way is to use an App that helps you do so with great ease. One of the apps we listed below (iPhone Data Transfer) is a great way to solve your problem.

OPTIONS TO DISCUSS:

  1. SIM card
  2. iCloud backup
  3. iCloud syncing
  4. App: iPhone Data Transfer
  5. iTunes
  6. Airdrop

1.     IMPORTING CONTACTS FROM SIM CARD TO THE NEW IPHONE

If you are new to iPhone, let us tell you that iPhone doesn’t store contacts on your SIM card. You may have some contacts stored in your SIM card from previous phones (If you don’t have contacts in your previous SIM card, then scroll below to see other options as well). These contacts can be stored in your new iPhone in easy steps.

Firstly, make sure that the SIM card should be supported by the phone. After the SIM card fits the iPhone, go to Settings > Contacts > Import SIM Contacts. Your device will provide options to save the contacts. After choosing the best option (most probably the iPhone memory), wait for a few seconds for the device to complete the process. Viola, your contacts can now be seen in the Contacts App.

2.     MOVE CONTACTS TO YOUR NEW IPHONE VIA ICLOUD BACKUP

You are using your new iPhone for the first time, and you want to transfer contacts from your old phone to your new one. While setting the new iPhone, you will be given an option to use iCloud Backup to transfer data and other settings. This process will use both your old and your new iPhones. It is possible that you turned on the iCloud backup option in your old phone.

If this is not the case, then before anything else, you need to make sure that your old phone is connected to a stable Wi-Fi connection. Then, you must go to Settings > your name or ID > iCloud > iCloud Backup. Once you are in this position, you can observe if the option for iCloud Backup is toggled on or off. If the button is turned off, you need to turn it on so that your data and your contacts can be backed up. Press Back up Now to start the process, which will take a little while depending on the amount of data to be stored.

Once the process for the old phone has been completed, we begin recovering contacts in your new iPhone. Turn on your new iPhone, and you will go through simple setup steps. When you reach a setup screen named Apps & Data, click on the option that says Restore from iCloud Backup. You will be prompted for your Apple ID, so you must enter the same ID you used on the old phone. Select the Backup that was created in the old phone. Your device will begin the restoration process, and once it has been done, you can move on to the next setup steps. When the setup is completed, you can view all your contacts in the Contacts App.

3.     SYNC CONTACTS TO NEW IPHONE VIA ICLOUD SYNCING

As we told you earlier, there are many ways to sync data from one phone to another, iCloud syncing is also another great option. ICloud sync is different from iCloud backup because backup creates an image that you like of your old phone, which is then restored in your new iPhone. However, iCloud sync lets you get photos, videos, music, and more from the iTunes library.

You will need both of your iPhones (the old phone and the new one) for the steps ahead. You will need to connect both devices with a stable Wi-Fi connection. Next, you must make sure that you have a login with the same Apple ID on both iPhones. For that, you need to go to Settings > your Apple ID. When you have reached here, you will have to click an iCloud option. Next, you will select Contacts and toggle it on if it has been turned off. After this, you must click on Merge to merge contacts between the devices. Please wait for the contacts to be merged and when it is done, your contacts will have synced in the new iPhone.

Note:

If your contacts haven’t been synced on the old iPhone, you need to do that before syncing the new phone.

The syncing process will continue until you are logged in with the same Apple ID and the contacts syncing option is turned on.

4.     TRANSFER CONTACTS VIA IPHONE DATA TRANSFER APP

While searching the web, you will encounter many apps that will let you transfer data and contacts to your new iPhone. However, we recommend using the iPhone Data Transfer App. This App lets you transfer all your contacts, images, videos, notes, and many more files with comparative ease.

According to the website (https://www.appgeeker.com/iphone-data-transfer.html), this App lets you manage and transfer your data. This App works for you in the manner iTunes does but just a little more. Apart from transferring files from your iPhone to your computer and vice-versa, this App also manages content for you.

This App lets you create, delete, and export data, make your ringtone, backup chats, and import contacts, and it lets you convert the files that are otherwise incompatible with your devices. This App is an overall powerhouse that will ease your life so that you can focus on other essential things around you.

5.     SYNC YOUR CONTACT LIST USING ITUNES

Apple provides us with various options, just like iCloud and iTunes. It is up to you to choose whether to sync contacts via iCloud or iTunes. If you want to transfer contacts from your old iPhone to a new iPhone, you can use iTunes installed on your Mac or PC.

Firstly you will have to make sure that you have installed the latest version of iTunes on your Mac or PC. After opening iTunes, you will need to plug your old iPhone into your computer. In iTunes, a popup message will appear showing your old iPhone. Select your phone and click Info on the left sidebar. Tick the Sync Contacts > Apply. After the sync is complete, you will need to unplug the old iPhone and plug in the new iPhone with your computer. Again choose the new iPhone in iTunes and then select Info on the left sidebar. You have to ensure that the Sync Contacts have been ticked. Scroll down to the Advanced menu and tick the Contacts option. Finally, click Apply to sync the contacts to the new iPhone.

6.     USE AIRDROP TO TRANSFER CONTACTS TO NEW IPHONE

In case you didn’t know, Apple introduced a feature back in 2011 named Airdrop. This feature lets you share and receive data wirelessly between Mac and iOS devices. Before you start, you need to make sure that both the devices have a stable Wi-Fi connection and that you have an iPhone11 or above.

Swipe up from the bottom of your new iPhone or swipe down to launch control center. You must press and hold the wireless control box. This box will expand and show the Airdrop button. Tap the Airdrop button to expand into the options menu where you will select Everyone. Next, go to your Contacts app on your old phone > find the contact you want to Airdrop > click Share contact > tap on the Airdrop option > Choose your new iPhone icon > click Accept button on your target iPhone to receive the contact.

Note:

Only 1 contact can be Airdropped at a time so if you want to transfer many contacts from your old iPhone to new iPhone, we won’t suggest using Airdrop. For transferring multiple contacts we would suggest you download the iPhone Data Transfer App so that your life is made easy.

I LOST MY OLD IPHONE. IS IT POSSIBLE FOR ME TO GET CONTACTS TO MY NEW IPHONE?

It will be really sad if your iPhone got lost or stolen or even got damaged to the extent that it is not in working condition. If this has happened to you recently, you do not need to worry, we have you covered.

Most probably you would have backed up your data over the time on your old iPhone through iCloud backup. If this is the case, then you just need to icloud.com > Sign in with your Apple ID > Click on the Contacts button. Here you can have a view of the contacts that were backed up during your last backup. You can use this backup while setting up the new iPhone as instructed earlier in section ‎2 (in the Apps & Data setup screen).

If you don’t see your contacts in the iCloud backup or have forgotten to make a backup, you can always use the backup in iTunes backup. The same procedure follows; when setting up the new iPhone, you reach the Apps & Data screen and tap on the Restore from iTunes Backup button.

You can also connect your new iPhone to your computer and go to iTunes, select your new iPhone in the top left of the screen and then click Restore Backup. You will be shown options for the latest backups, so select the latest and let the contacts be restored.
